Boxers in Bed: Redefining PJs for Women

Every person has their preferred pajamas whether it’s an old t-shirt, a long nightgown, athletic clothes, or even their birthday suit. Shop online or in a store for pajamas and you’ll be bombarded with stylish pajama sets, onesies, robes, and nighties. Some articles of clothing for bedwear are highly debated, like sports bras, and we’re here to say that BOXERS have entered the chat.

Unless you have a really bossy friend or family member, no one is telling you what you can and can’t wear, but in a way, when we shop, stores and brands are telling us what to wear. Sure, we get to choose where to shop and ultimately, what to buy, but we select from the options we are offered. It’s important that we take a moment to look outside the style box and into molding our own fashion.

“Men’s” boxers are here to redefine pajamas for women. Do you have $20 and a need for comfort and breathability? That’s a start, but read on if you want to know why:

Boxers offer breathability with subtle coverage.

We all know how important it is to let our bodies breathe while we sleep. Wearing boxers allows your vagina some fresh air while still offering some coverage—no more sweaty, uncomfortable nights! Plus, they won’t ride up like your typical women’s shorts or underwear.

Men’s boxers are cheaper than regular pajamas.

Thanks to the mysterious pink tax, boxers made for and marketed toward women tend to be more expensive. For example, Oprah Daily has a product review for boxers for women, but 11 out of the 12 products recommended are well over $25 for a single pair! The simple solution is to buy men’s boxers. There are plenty of fun colors and styles to fit any fashion. One thing to pay attention to is the fly style, as you might prefer a less bulky fly style if you’re not utilizing all the extra space.

For the price of one pair of pajama shorts or even boxer shorts made for women, you can buy a pack of boxers, one for each night of the week! Of course, this ultimately depends on the brand, but we’re referencing the standard Hanes value pack.

A set of boxers makes a sensible choice for hygiene.

If you buy a pack or set of boxers, you’ll have enough to switch boxers each night of the week and easily wash in the laundry for reuse again. While it’s safe to say that most people wash their underwear after one use, pajama bottoms or shorts (since most people don’t rotate them every night) get worn quite a bit. If you’ve got a pack of boxers, then you can easily rotate them while getting all the benefits of pajamas. Boxers are the perfect blend of underwear and pajama shorts.

Additionally, the ventilation of boxers creates an ideal environment for good vaginal health. While you could choose maximum ventilation by choosing to forgo anything at all, boxers are still great for walking around the house before bedtime or just for those nights that you’d like a little bit of extra coverage.

Choosing Boxers for Women:

  1. Search online for men’s boxers or go to the men’s department if you go in store.
  2. Find a style/pattern that you like.
  3. Find the right fit. Make sure to check the size chart because men’s sizes are different than what you might be used to. Generally, women’s hips are wider than men’s.
  4. Get enough for each night of the week. If you plan on rotating your boxers every night of the week (recommended), get enough pairs of boxers to wear in between washes.

Wearing boxers to bed as a woman isn’t just comfortable and liberating; it’s also a great way to save money on pajamas while still getting a good night’s rest. Not only does the loose fit let you breathe while still providing coverage, but they also come in a variety of materials and styles so you can find the perfect pair for yourself. So don’t be afraid to try out this new fashion trend—your wallet (and body) will thank you later!
